Eastern Bank Highlights Their Commitment To Diversity and Inclusion By Getting Their Inclusive Innovation Certification

Eastern Bank are the oldest and largest mutual bank in the United States, and the largest community bank in Massachusetts. Founded in 1818 in Salem, Massachusetts and later moved to Lynn, they have 115 locations throughout the Commonwealth to service private citizens and corporations.

What has your team done in the past to support diverse talent?

Our team attends a number of events throughout the year to support finding diverse talent. These range from diversity specific career fairs (most recently attending the first transgender community career fair) to networking events throughout the Boston community. Additionally, we work with several diversity organizations and are sponsors for several events and initiatives. Eastern Bank testified in August 2016, to improve training and require certification for Veterans Service Officers in cities and towns across Massachusetts to improve access for Veterans to vital benefits that are already designed and funded to help them and their families. We also made a $50,000 contribution to support UMass Lowell’s Veterans Fund, to enable zero percent loans to student-veterans facing financial crises that threaten their ability to complete their degree programs. We worked with other businesses and organizations across the Bay State to advocate for an annual Massachusetts Race Amity Day. Those efforts paid off when Massachusetts became the first state to pass a resolution dedicating the second Sunday of June each year as a day to reflect upon the diverse cultural backgrounds of the people of Massachusetts and to build bridges of understanding across racial divides. A similar resolution was passed at the national level last year.

What does your team hope to do in the future to support more diverse talent?:

In addition to what we currently do, we will continue to explore other resources that can help us build a pipeline of diverse talent for our open jobs. We strive to maintain a diverse and inclusive workforce to offer superior banking solutions and service to a diverse array of customers.
